From: "David W. Inouye"Subject: Post Doc: CEEM Potato Late Blight Project, Cornell Univ., Toluca Mexico POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE Cornell-Eastern Europe-Mexico (CEEM) Potato Late Blight project, Cornell University, Toluca, Mexico. We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to study the biology/ecology/epidemiology of Phytophthora infestans at the center of origin of the pathogen (central highlands of Mexico). The candidate will work in the Late Blight laboratory established by PICTIPAPA and CEEM in 1997 in Toluca, Mexico. This laboratory was specifically equipped to work with P. infestans. Currently, three researchers are working year-round in Toluca studying the pathogen in the field, laboratory and greenhouse. The incumbent is expected to work in close collaboration with scientists in both Toluca and at Cornell University. The position is part of an international collaborative project involving scientists from Cornell University, Mexico (INIFAP, ICAMEX, PICTIPAPA, CIMMYT), Europe (IPO-DLO) and Latin America (CIP). Knowledge of Spanish and international experience is desirable. The candidate is expected to write grant proposals for future funding and needs to be able to work in an interdisciplinary team. The work also involves providing backup/support for activities from Cornell researchers and the private sector such as screening potato clones for resistance to Late Blight. Successful candidates should have a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology or a related field with a strong background in either population genetics or epidemiology/ecology. The position is for two years. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, transcripts and the names of three references to both: Dr. William E. Fry, Plant Pathology Department, 334 Plant Science Building, Ithaca, NY 14853; e-mail: wef1@cornell.edu and Dr. Niklaus J. Grunwald, Cornell University, c/o PICTIPAPA, Apartado postal 2-12, Metepec, Estado de Mexico 52142, Mexico; e-mail: njg7@cornell.edu. ------------------------------
