Kubiske"Subject: GRA-tree physiology The Forestry Department at Mississippi State University, in cooperation with the US Forest Service, Center for Bottomland Hardwood Research, is seeking applicants for a graduate research assistantship to study tree physiology at the M.S. level. The research project consists, in part, of defining leaf-seed carbon source-sink relationships in reproductive shoots of oak. This project is part of a larger research program investigating natural regeneration of southern bottomland oaks. The research assistantship will be for two years and will include an annual stipend of $12,000 and full payment of graduate tuition. There is also the possibility of incorporating one semester of a teaching assistantship, depending upon student interests and expertise. Research will begin spring of 1999, academic work will start in January 1999. Qualifications are a BS degree in forestry or plant science-related field; good written and oral communication skills; and an interest in tree physiology or physiological ecology.
