Research projects are focused on elucidating the function of nematode biodiversity in managed and unmanaged systems (for example, Antarctic dry valleys, Shortgrass Steppe Long Term Ecological Research site, and agricultural systems in Colorado). Duties and Responsibilities. Designing procedures for field sampling of different nematode species, identification and enumeration of microscopic soil and plant nematodes, extracting nematodes by the appropriate techniques, analyzing chemical and physical properties of soils, using image analysis for characterization of species, and establishing and maintaining nematode cultures. Laboratory management: scheduling tasks, maintaining and inventorying equipment, developing and writing up operating procedures, responsibility for lab safety and cleanliness, supervision of student workers. Perform fieldwork, field experiments and participate in special projects as needed. Must be able to work as a team member. Minimum Qualifications. B.S. degree in natural or agricultural science. Solid field experience necessary. Demonstrated knowledge of soil field data collection and survey techniques. Experience with microbiological-type sterile techniques, handling chemicals, and microscope proficiency. Data entry and computing proficiency. Desired. Two years research experience in a laboratory environment. Familiarity with Macintosh computers and software, especially Excel and Word. Salary. $21,000-$26,000/12 months depending on experience.
