LECTURER IN WETLAND ECOLOGY (RE-ADVERTISED)

DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES

(POSITION NO. A89/98)

This position is a joint initiative of the University of Newcastle and the
Kooragang Wetland Rehabilitation Project. In addition to academic duties,
the successful applicant will also be required to stimulate further research
in the Kooragang Wetland Rehabilitation Project.  The appointee will teach
the third year subject Wetland Ecology as well as a second year subject in a
related area.

Essential Criteria:  PhD in some aspect of estuarine/wetland ecology;
applied research in estuarine/wetland ecology as proven through
publications; University teaching experience in ecology; demonstrated
written and verbal communication skills. A broad knowledge of wetland
ecology is essential, with a specific interest in wetland vegetation being
desirable.

Desirable Criteria:  Experience in supervision of Honours students, graduate
students and research projects; proven success in attracting research funds;
experience in monitoring wetland rehabilitation projects; knowledge and
experiences of Australian wetlands; competence in both experimental design
teaching and research.

Salary:   Lecturer Level B $45,435 to $53,955 per annum.  Enterprise
Agreement salary increases of 1.5% on 1 November 1998 and 4% on 1 March 1999
have been approved.  Compulsory contributory superannuation is a condition
of employment.
