Subject: Request for Information: Wireless connectivity in Haiti Sender: owner-gkd@mail.edc.org Precedence: bulk Reply-To: gkd@mail.edc.org Status: RO Greetings, Iridium--Motorola's low-earth orbit satellite which is supposed to launch in September--claims to cover Haiti from their 'Iridium SudAmerica Northern' region http://www.iridium.com/gateways/sudamericanr/index.html There's a form that you can fill in (click on 'become a customer') to get more information on the service, this may include cost etc. if you specify Haiti as the country the form asks for the province within Haiti etc. A project here uses packet radio technology. The wireless networks with which it can work are provided by a company called RAM (www.ram.com) and a separate network by Ardis (www.ardis.com). While I doubt very much if they have coverage in Haiti, they might be able to direct you to someone else that would know if any such option is available. Is there a telephone company in Haiti? If so, it would be worth asking the question from them. Also if they have television access from this rural location, check out http://www.webtv.net/ns/tune/index.htmlicanr/index.html Hope this helps. Regards, Trisha.
