Introduction

Geoinformatics is the science and technology for collection, management, analysis and presentation of geographic and other spatially defined data. It deals with information about objects, phenomena and processes on and in the earth, such as physical environment, natural and man made resources, their use and changes thereof.
Of particular interest are remote sensing techniques for acquisition of such information, digital image analysis, computer-based geographical information technology and computer cartography for analysis and presentation of complex spatial data.

Cartography is the art, science and technology for making maps, charts, globes, and relief models and for using and studying them as scientific documents or pieces of art. Cartography covers the process of producing map information about objects, phenomena, and processes on and in the earth and other celestial bodies through compilation of data. It also deals with the design and graphical presentation of such information on various media.

Remote sensing is the science and technology of acquiring, processing, interpreting and presenting spatial data, especially in digital form, on objects and processes of the environment, using electromagnetic radiation or geophysical data recorded at a distance.
