Since the last update in January, approximately 60 new projects have been added and 150 obsolete projects removed from the database. The EE Register now contains 1,620 projects. You can access the CADDET Energy Efficiency Register free of charge from our home page (http://www.caddet-ee.org/newsdesk/npubs_al.htm#CADDETlm99.htmlct_parties/Pl). The latest issue of the CADDET Energy Efficiency Newsletter is now available on the CADDET EE Internet site (http://www.caddet-ee.org/newsdesk/npubs_al.htm#CADDETlm99.htmlct_parties/Pl). The topic is 'Boilers and Burners'. Articles cover a variety of boiler and burner technologies, illustrating the state of progress in efficient energy use whilst minimising pollutant (mainly NOx) emissions. Other 'non-topical' articles include industrial symbiosis and efficient lighting systems in office buildings. All articles are downloadable in either pdf or html format. An additional CADDET EE Newsletter, a 'Special Issue on Australia', is also now available on the CADDET EE Internet site (http://www.caddet-ee.org/newsdesk/npubs_al.htm#CADDETlm99.htmlct_parties/Pl). This issue focuses on energy efficiency in Australia. The articles feature a range of demonstration projects in the building and industry sectors, and outline the objectives of the Australian government's current energy policy. Copies of both Newsletters are also available from your local National Team, or from the CADDET EE Centre in Sittard, the Netherlands(e-mail: caddet@caddet-ee. org). CADDET Organisation (Renewable Energy) The CADDET RE Events page has been recently updated with some new events which will be held during the year. If you are organising a renewables event and would like it to be included on the CADDET RE Web Site, please e-mail the details to jemma.howland@aeat.co.uk Please note we cannot guarantee that every event will be posted on the site. 2. GREENTIE (Greenhouse Gas Technology Information Exchange) ================================ The GREENTIE/CTI stand will be displayed at the international exhibition 'Wastech-1999: Industry of Recycling and Utilisation' in Moscow from 1-6 June. The Russian GLO will represent the GREENTIE Centre at the event. The theme of GREENTIE/CTI stand is 'GREENTIE Network for Waste Management'. The GREENTIE Directory will be distributed at the exhibition by the Russian GLO. The Directory contains around 1,300 organisations involved in waste-related technologies. An article entitled 'GREENTIE and CADDET - Joint Forces for International Technology Transfer' by the GREENTIE and CADDET Centres will be published in Moscow in English and Russian. 3. Link of the month ================================ International Investment and Climate Change: Energy Technologies for Developing Countries (By Tim Forsyth): The author analyses how international private investors may transfer environmentally sound technologies to developing countries, and how the newly created Clean Development Mechanism can assist this process. Technology transfer is one of the most important issues of international environmental agreements, but few know what it means in practice, or how private companies can help. This book provides a detailed analysis and practical guidance. The site is called 'Planet Energy' and visitors are guided around its 'Energy Trail', to learn about new and renewable energy technologies. The website is fully illustrated with renewable energy images and animations, as well as working examples of a variety of applications. The site is divided into three sections: the teacher information zone; an information zone for 7-11 year olds and an information zone for 12-16 year olds. You can find Planet Energy at http://www.dti.gov.uk/renewable/ed_pack/al.htm#CADDETlm99.htmlct_parties/Pl The UK releases a consultation document on renewables. The British government will spend GBP 43 million over the next three years for R&D in renewables under the New and Renewable Energy Support Programme. Energy Minister John Battle has released a consultation paper showing that renewables can be competitive in energy supply, and that 10% of the electricity demand could be generated from renewables by 2010. The Non Fossil Fuel Obligation has provided GBP 600 million to support renewables, which could rise to 150 million a year. Comments on the consultation document are welcome before 28 May. A separate publication on the current and future status of renewable energy technologies in the UK has also been published. Further details can be found at http://www.dti.gov.uk/renew/condoc_pack/al.htm#CADDETlm99.htmlct_parties/Pl 4. News and events ================================ Norwegian White Paper Pushes Renewables : Norway will increase spending on renewable energy beyond its hydro capacity. A White Paper says coal-fired electricity imports from Denmark will be curtailed in favour of more renewables capacity, backed by an investment of EUR 600 million over 10 years and increased taxes on electricity and fossil fuels. Norway wants 3 TWh of wind generation by 2010. Industry and Innovation in the 21st Century : ACEEE 1999 Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Industry will be held on 15-18 June 1999 in Saratoga Springs, New York, USA.
