Below is an announcement for a meeting at the PES
San Diego Summer meeting that was mailed to
members of the Risk, Reliability, and Probability
Subcommittee. This annoucement is in regards to
the task force under this subcommittee that is
addressing probabilistic aspects of reliability
criteria. Please feel free to join us if the topic
is of interest to you. Thanks.

Re: Task Force on Probabilistic Aspects of Reliability Criteria

Date: June 22, 1998

The Task Force on Probabilistic Aspects of Reliability
Criteria will meet at the IEEE PES Summer
Meeting in San Diego on Tuesday, July 14, from
9 am to 11 am in Parlor Room 514 of the Sheraton San
Diego Hotel and Marina. We will be reviewing
progress on the tasks set out in the Winter
Meeting (see my mailing to you dated March 17, 1998). In
addition, Dr. Mohammed Bashir from Los Angeles Department
of Water and Power will provide us with an overview of
ongoing work of two WSCC groups in which he
participates. One of these is the Probability
Based Reliability Criteria (PBRC) Task Force,
and the other is the WSCC Mandatory Compliance
Task Force. I expect that Dr. Beshir's presentation
will complement our work very well. Below is an
agenda for the meeting.

We have made some progress in Tasks A and B. Our
initial goal for Task A is to review selected reliability
criteria. US Reliability Council criteria is easily
obtainable via the WEB, and we have a good summary of
this. What we would still like very much to acquire
are (1) samples of more detailed steady state security
criteria (line, transformer overload criteria and
voltage criteria) that are used by individual companies and
(2) reliability criteria used in other countries
(e.g., Brazil, France, UK, Norway, etc). I encourage
you to consider ways you may be able to help in this regard.
If so, please contact Sohrab Asgarpoor at 402-472-
6852. We have also compiled a bibliography of papers
regarding probabilistic steady state security
assessment, in an effort to identify techniques
for use in Task C: comparing study results using probabilistic
and deterministic criteria. I will distribute this
bibliography at the meeting. Please bring hard copies of any
papers that you feel would be appropriate for
inclusion in this bibliography, or fax them to me the by July
10.

I look forward to seeing you in San Diego.
