GLOBAL BIODIVERSITY FORUM: A SURVEY

The Global Biodiversity Forum (GBF) arose from a recommendation in the
IUCN-WRI-UNEP Global Biodiversity Strategy for a continuing,
independent, inclusive and constructive mechanism to promote dialogue on
the topic of biodiversity among interested sectors of society. To date,
some 14 sessions of the Forum have been held around the world, including
regional sessions. The GBF convenors and partners are in the process of
elaborating a long-term strategy, sustainability study, and monitoring
and evaluation plan for the GBF. The survey is not only addressed to
participants of the GBF, but to all those involved in the process and
negotiations of the Convention on Biological Diversity. Even if you have
not yet participated in a GBF, your perception of the GBF is important
to us.

This survey is composed of 2 main parts. The first part seeks to
undertake a general assessment of the GBF process to date by GBF
participants. The second part seeks input into the development of a
vision and strategy for the GBF over the next 5 years.

Please answer the following questions and return this form by 11
September 1998 (preferably by fax:+41 22 999-0025) to: Jeffrey McNeely,
Biodiversity Policy Coordination Division, IUCN, 28 Rue Mauverney, 1196
Gland, Switzerland (tel: +4122 999-0001). Your cooperation is greatly
appreciated. If you receive it by e-mail and you cannot read the table
properly, please send us your fax number and we will be pleased to fax
it to you.
