STA Fellowship Programme (Postdoctoral Fellowships in Japanese National Laboratories) Department of Science & Technology (DST), a Responsible Organisation = (RO) of India for STA Fellowship Programme 2000 of Science & Technology = Agency (STA) of Japan, invites applications from promising and qualified = Indian researchers for Postdoctoral Fellowships to conduct research at = Japan's national laboratories and public research corporations = (excluding universities and university-affiliated institutes). There are 8 long-term (6 months to 2 years) fellowships and 8 short-term = (1-3 months) fellowships to be nominated by DST. As a part of the ILTP Fellowship, the Russian scientists will be = provided fellowship amount of Rs 12,000/- per month and airfare by = economy class from Moscow to place of work in India. There are 5 fellowships to be = nominated by DST. The = programme on "Visiting Fellowships in Canadian government = laboratories-2000" is administered by the Natural Sciences and = Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). It is intended for = recent doctoral graduates who have obtained their degree within the last = five years. There are no restrictions on the nationality of applicants. = NSERC reviews applications and places successful candidates on an = inventory of approved candidates from which the participating Canadian = government departments can select individuals and offer them the = fellowship. Scientists will be encouraged, under the scheme, to pursue = research of high standard in frontier areas of science and engineering, = subject to peer review. Funding under this programme will be limited to = a sum up to Rs. 10 lakhs, which will include recurring costs = (Fellowship, consumables, travel and contingency) and equipment (less = than Rs. 5.00 Lakhs). Scientists, if not holding regular positions, can = draw a fellowship of Rs. 15000/- per month. The support will be provided = for a period not exceeding three years. Eligibility: Candidates should possess Ph.D. in science/engineering or = Masters in engineering/technology or MD in medicine or equivalent. The Department of Science and Technology has received = information regarding visiting fellowships in Canadian government = laboratories.=20 The programme on "Visiting = Fellowships=20 in Canadian government laboratories-2000" = is=20 administered by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of = Canada=20 (NSERC). It is intended for = recent=20 doctoral graduates who have obtained their degree within the last five=20 years. There are no restrictions on the = nationality=20 of applicants. NSERC reviews applications and places successful = candidates on an=20 inventory of approved candidates from which the participating Canadian=20 government departments can select individuals and offer them the = fellowship. The=20 offer of fellowship comes from the Canadian government departments and = not from=20 the NSERC.

Under this programme Canada offers a = scholarship/fellowship of=20 Canadian $ 36,785 per annum to cover boarding, lodging and academic = expenses. In=20 addition Canada also provides air-fare to the selected candidates, their = spouses=20 and children. The Department of Science & Technology, Science = and=20 Engineering Research Council (SERC), in order to provide quick research = support=20 to young scientists below = the age of 35=20 years, has introduced a new fast track = mechanism.=20 Scientists will be encouraged, under the scheme, to pursue research of = high=20 standard in frontier areas of science and engineering, subject to peer = review.=20 Funding under this programme will be limited to a sum up to Rs. 10 = lakhs, which=20 will include recurring costs (Fellowship, consumables, travel and = contingency)=20 and equipment (less than Rs. 5.00 Lakhs). Scientists, if not holding = regular=20 positions, can draw a fellowship of Rs. 15000/- per month. The support = will be=20 provided for a period not exceeding three years.
Eligibility: Candidates = should=20 possess Ph.D. in science/engineering or Masters in = engineering/technology or MD=20 in medicine or equivalent. The scheme is open to young scientists who = are below=20 35 years as on December 31, 2000.
