Extensive water-quality data collection will be conducted in all three watersheds. The work will support the development of TMDL=92s (total maxi= mum daily loads) for the impaired surface-water bodies. Objectives of the Internship: The intern will participate as a junior member of a three to four person = team of hydrologists and hydrologic technicians. Internship objectives are to participate in bacteria and other water-quality sampling and to review an= d quality assure all data collected. Specific Tasks: 1. Collect water samples from three impaired watersheds 2. Review and enter appropriate data into USGS databases 3. Perform basic laboratory analyses of bacteria samples. Work Experience Benefit(s) to Intern: The intern will work under the supervision of an experienced hydrologist = and will develop practical experience in the field of hydrology. The intern w= ill gain in-depth experience in the collection, processing, and analysis of w= ater quality samples. Specific Qualifications Required:=20 Requires at least an Associates Degree or 60 Credit hours from a US colle= ge or university or US citizen that studied abroad. Able to work 40 hours per week. International students must be eligible to work in the US for up to two y= ears without sponsorship from the USGS or ECO. Basic computer skills. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Working knowledge of basic hydrologic principles. Vegetation monitoring will be conducted using Daubenmire frame and Robel pole quadrat techniques. QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from (or enrollment in) an accredited college or university with course emphasis in wildlife management, zoology, or closely related subjects. Employee must be able to work well in small groups and in relatively unsupervised settings. Must also be able to work independently at field locations despite occasional adverse field conditions. Employee must be able to travel weekly throughout north Missouri. Employee must be licensed to operate a motor vehicle.
