We are searching for an innovative, experienced person to lead program development in this area. The position will be a full-time (12-month: 70% research (Florida Agricultural Experiment Station), 30% teaching (College of Agricultural and Life Sciences), tenure-accruing, University faculty position, involving research, teaching and service functions on behalf of the Program. This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit. Specific responsibilities to the University and the Trust include: (1) Developing an externally-funded research program focused on the sustainable management of natural tropical forests, (2) Teaching of both undergraduate and graduate courses in tropical forestry (ecology and management), and contributing to other appropriate courses in the School (e.g., international forestry, ecology, policy, or management), (3) Recruiting and supervising highly qualified graduate students at the Master's and Ph.D. levels, (4) Leading the development of technical assistance projects in tropical resource management and conservation, and (5) organizing an annual conference/workshop in this subject area. The incumbent will collaborate with related programs in other units across campus (e.g., the Centers for Latin American and/or African Studies, the Tropical Conservation and Development Program). The Trust will provide support to the incumbent for program development and project management, including partial salary. Hence, the position has dual opportunities for providing direction to the development of more applied programs through the mechanism of the Trust, while pursuing academic interests and activities through the University. It is anticipated that the incumbent will spend approximately 10% time on program administration for the Trust. QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in forest ecology and management, including extensive research and field experience in tropical forestry. Teaching experience in both classroom and field settings, including the organization of short-courses or other training programs. Demonstrated ability to compete for external funds for program support. Demonstrated leadership experience in the practice of tropical forestry or a related activity. Communication skills in English must be excellent; a second language (especially Spanish or Portuguese).
