The Program maintains a = database of Tennessee's rare species, ecosystems and significant biological= diversity sites. The Program supports the Division's Natural Areas = Program, and the conservation efforts of other land managing agencies in = the state. The Tennessee Natural Areas Program administers Tennessee's system of = Natural Areas established under the Natural Areas Preservation Act. This = system protects significant rare species, geologic features, natural = communities and ecosystems. Management goals and specific rules for the = 58 State Natural Areas are developed and implemented by the natural areas = administrator in cooperation with the managing entity for each Natural = Area. =20 We seek two (2) Summer Interns to work in the Natural Heritage Program = with our professional conservation biologists in the areas of botany and = zoology. Duties will include field work in various parts of Tennessee, = species identification, data management, and report writing. We also = seek one (1) intern to work in the Natural Areas Program. Duties will = include database and records management, report writing, and natural areas = stewardship activities. =20 Applicants must be enrolled students at junior (in Fall 2000) level or = above.
