12 month, career track position available immediately. This position

position  involves all aspects of ecological reserve management, including

ASSISTANT MUSEUM SCIENTIST (RESERVE STEWARD)
Biology/Neuroscience/NRS


$2,289 - $2,742 per month

Position is located off-campus at the James Reserve.

Essential Functions:  Under the general direction of the James Reserve
Director, assist the daily and programmatic operation aspects of the James
Reserve and Oasis de Los Osos Reserve.  This includes The Biological
Monitoring Inventory, museum collections, and information management,
maintaining traps assist with bird banding, and updating the reserve web
site and databases; facilities management and general maintenance and
programmatic upgrades of instrumentation (weather stations, web cams, solar
power system, generators, water systems, computer hardware and software,
and data/telecommunications networks), general care and upkeep of
buildings, roads, and maintain fire safe clearances.  Administrative and
user management, assisting Reserve Director as needed with visitor use,
participating in group's activities when necessary, restocking supplies,
and cleaning facility.  Participate in other public outreach activities
including teaching, guided tours, lectures, and demonstrations.
Responsible for reserve operations when the Reserve Director is off
premises.

Minimum Requirements:  Education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's
degree in biology, botany, zoology, geography or comparable field.
Demonstrated experience conducting basic biological field work, including
protocol design, data collection, analysis, and report preparation.
Experience using Windows and Macintosh systems and commonly used office
applications such as MS Office, Internet, and electronic mail.

Experience using hand and power tools (including chainsaws) appropriate for
general maintenance of buildings and grounds.  Demonstrated ability to
organize, file, prioritize, manage time, write clearly, and interact well
with supervisor, colleagues, and reserve users.  Ability to perform
physical labor in mountain and desert seasonal outdoor environments.
Working familiarity with ArcView GIS, DBMS, and web page authoring
applications.  Hired applicant must successfully pass a background check
through the U.S. Department of Justice.

Preferred Qualifications:  Education and experience equivalent to a
master's degree in biology, botany, zoology, geography or comparable field.
