and Development, has just brought out a publication called SHARING THE
BENEFITS OF BIODIVERSITY: THE KANI--TBGRI DEAL IN KERALA, INDIA, by R.V.

Based Conservation in South Asia. 

This case study is a critical assessment of India's first formal attempt at
sharing the commercial benefits of a herbal drug produced using indigenous
tribal knowledge. The deal between the Kani tribe and the Tropical Botanic
Garden and Research Institute, its various strengths and weaknesses, and
the general lessons emerging from it, are described in detail.
