Dear colleagues

I wish to announce that the Mexican Society of Biotechnology and
Bioengineering (SMBB) is promoting the voluntary affiliation of their
membership to the IOBB. The letter of promotion is just being sent. This
will increase the actual IOBB membership and will provide an administrative
way to collect the IOBB dues. Once the new list of membership is completed
I will call for a ballot to replace me because I am planning to use an
extended sabbatical leave, starting on September 2005.

I hope this new forum (SMBB-IOBB) will provide a way to have joint
activities. An interesting oportunity is the coming National Congress of
Biotechnolgy on September 2005 at Merida, Yucatan, near the resort area of
Cancun. There we could organize an IOBB lecture if we find matching funds
perhaps from UNESCO or other agencies in order to help finance the travel
costs. The atendance is usually around 1,000 people and is the major event
in our field in Mexico.

Best wishes.
