Three tanks will be developed in 12 months, says Mayor

The BMP has identified the Yediyur tank, Sankey tank and Kempambudhi tank in the City for overall development under the ‘Kere Siri’ programme. The three tanks will be developed with the assistance of the BWSSB within the next 12 months at a total cost of Rs 5 crore.

        Speaking to reporters after conducting an inspection of the three tanks today, Mayor K Chandrashekar said a detailed project report in this regard would be prepared in another 30 days. The BMP had set aside Rs 6.5 crore towards the rejuvenation of the three tanks. The Yediyur tank would be developed at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore. The eastern bund would be strengthened at a cost of Rs 30 lakh. 
                                                                                                                                                                                                    A garden with a walking path, a children’s park and a variety of fountains would be developed at a cost of Rs 50 lakh. “The entire tank will be desilted and a modern water treatment plant will be set up at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore. The plant will treat sewage generated in all blocks of Jayanagar,” Mr Chandrashekar explained. The BMP had earmarked Rs 4 crore towards the development of the historic Kempambudhi tank. Work on the first phase of the project is nearing completion. 
                                                                                                                                                                                                    The BMP and BWSSB would take measures, within the next 15 days, to divert sewage entering the tank. 
The Sankey tank will be developed by the BMP in association with the State Forest Department. We propose to develop a garden, a children’s park and a gymnasium at a cost of Rs 50 lakh. “We plan to rejuvenate the tank,” he said.
