BWSSB chairman M.N. Vidyashankar told The Asian Age that the diversion of sewage water flowing into the drain behind the Koramangala sport complex will be completed by June this year.
Residence of the area have been complaining abourt the foul smell and health hazard due to the flow of sewage into the drain, meant only for rain water.
The board has already diverted 75 per cent of sewage flowing into the storm water drain behind the complex. Action has been initiated to divert the remaining sewage water into the Koramangala and Chalghatta Valleyin the central part of the city which has a sewage treatment plant for the area.
Measures will also be initiated to divert sewage water flowing into the Lalbagh tank which has created a stink, spoiling the charm of the garden. Mr Vidya Shankar said. The centuries old Laldagh tank, though scenic, has been spoilt due to the flow of sewage water. The board plans to lay a bigger pipe of 600mm diameter connecting the Lalbagh tank to the existing sewers.
Though no time frame has been fixed for this work, the board plans to execute the work shortly. Mr Vidyashankar said. With this, the flow of sewage water into the tank will be prevented, he said.
