Joint Round Table Discussion
on
Infrastructural and Service Demands of Emerging Urban Growth Centres
Background: Infrastructure and environmental constraints associated with the unplanned urbanisation has put most of the cities in developing countries at a competitive disadvantage. Problems of collective provision are demanding innovative in situ local and regional governance and regulatory solutions around issues such as investment in hard infrastructure and affordable housing. Local infrastructural solutions to entrepreneurial modes of growth are increasingly influenced by wider debates about quality of life, carbon reduction, and social and environmental sustainability. Proposed Joint Round Table discussion provides a forum for interaction with strategic actors and policymakers

Centre for infrastructure, Sustainable Transportation and Urban Planning (CiSTUP) at Indian Institute of Science (http://cistup.iisc.ac.in) has been carrying out various activities related to basic and applied research and development, academic activities, training programmes, workshops and consultancy projects in the areas of infrastructure, sustainable transportation systems and urban planning.
Center for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP), a new Bangalore-based not-profit think tank, carries out cutting edge research in technologies in energy, information and communications, materials and infrastructure for human development (http://www.cstep.in).
The Centre for City and Regional Studies is an inter-disciplinary research centre located in the Department of Geography at the University of Hull (http://www.hull.ac.uk/ccrs/). The focus of much of the Centre's work is on national, regional and local policy for economic development and environmental protection and in particular on the interface between these two areas of public policy.
