NCSTC-HORNBILL NATURAL HISTORY SERIES
NEW NATURAL HISTORY BOOK RELEASES

On June 5, 1997 (World Environment Day) at 6 p.m. the first six titles
from the above series will be released at a simple function being held
at the Bombay Natural History Society members' room.

The titles are being jointly published by Vigyan Prasar and Sanctuary
Magazine. They are intended to enhance the ecological information base
of people so as to replace sentimentalism with pragmatism in the battle
to save nature. They have been authored by some of the best known and
best qualified natural history writers in India today:

1. Diversity -- the cornerstone of life by Madhav Gadgil
2. Extinction is forever by J.C. Daniel
3. Predators and Prey -- nature strikes a balance by K. Ullas Karanth
4. The Indian Elephant -- endangered in the land of Ganesha by
    Ajay Desai
5. Moths of India by Isaac Kehimkar
6. Evolution -- the story of life by Renee Borges

National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) and
the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) hold joint copyright for the
titles. More titles are expected to be added each year to cover as wide
a spectrum of nature as possible. The publications should serve the
dual purpose of disseminating information and keeping an archival record
of India's natural heritage on the eve of the next millenium.

Each title will be printed in colour and black and white (size 4.75"x7",
84 pages including covers) and will be available on the newsstands at a
cover price of Rs. 125/-.

You can place orders for copies from Sanctuary or from Vigyan Prasar.
Just hit the "Reply" button, enclose your postal address... and
everything else will follow! Those of you who can be at Hornbill House
on June 5, 1997 will be able to meet a whole lot of people interested in
natural history matters, including some of the authors and also Asad
Rehmani, the new Director of the BNHS.
