From: Current ScienceTo: nvjoshi@ces.iisc.ac.in From: The Reviewer To: thereviewer@india.com Subject: The 10 most influential environmental books of the century CALL FOR NOMINATIONS The Reviewer (http://members.rediff.com/thereviewer/) is inviting nominations for "The 10 most influential environmental books of the century" poll. To ensure that the poll is qualitative (and not quantitative) and that the process is not hijacked by non-environmentalists trying to promote their own agenda, the nominations will not be submission of mere names, but would be 50-100 word appraisals/critiques of the book(s) in question. NOMINATIONS: (i) A nominator will have to nominate 10 books in descending order. (ii) Should someone not be able to nominate 10 books, it will not matter. One can nominate AT THE MOST 10 books. Nominating less than 10 is okay. (iii) Simply naming a book will not be deemed as a nomination in itself. Each nomination would have to be a JUSTIFICATION/SHORT REVIEW of the book in about 50-100 words. The maximum word limit, however, is 500 words. (iv) Nominators would have to be involved with environment. CRITERIA: The nomination for each book would have to be based on the following criteria: (i) Influence it has had on environmentalists themselves (ii) Influence it has had on the masses directly (iii) Influence it has had on the media (iv) Influence it has had on policymakers (v) Influence it has had on environmental science and research And the book, obviously, should have been written and published in the 20th century. HOW TO NOMINATE: The nominations can be made online at http://members.rediff.com/thereviewer/books-enviro.htm.
